Getting started with Social Media…
Are you totally new to all things Social Media? Do you want to have a presence for your business, organisation or group? Take a look at some of the services below and see how Sarah can help you get started.
Facebook is the world’s biggest social network with over 1 billion active users worldwide. You can either have a personal profile or a business page on this network.
Twitter is the second largest social networking site in the world. The microblogging service has over 500 million registered users. The main purpose of this platform is to post and read text based messages of no more than 140 characters, called ‘Tweets’. It is a brilliant way to spread the word about your business, product or organisation.
LinkedIn is the world’s third biggest social network and the world’s largest professional social network. It has over 200 million members across the world, and in 2012 surpassed 5.3 billion professionally-oriented searches on the site alone.
There are several programmes to use if you wanted to get started in email marketing however, the ones I use are MailChimp and MadMimi. Both of these programmes are incredibly user friendly and provide everything you need to design beautifully laid out email campaigns or newsletters.
Instagram is a photo-sharing social network which allows its users to take photos from their mobile phone, apply filters and then share directly to other Instagram users or onto your Facebook and Twitter pages. In 2012, Instagram was bought by Facebook so the integration between the two services is quick and easy.
Pinterest is another photo-based social network, but it uses a pinboard style so you can create and manage theme based ‘boards’ to show your inspiration, interests, design themes and so much more. You can look through other users boards, like their photos or re-pin them to your own to create collections.
WordPress is a highly successful blogging tool and content management system on which you can design and build effective websites on. It is the most popular blogging platform on the internet and manages 22% of all new websites built.
Blogger is a blogging service that was bought by Google in 2003.
